TAFE International Western Australia (TIWA)
Central TAFE began as Perth Technical School in 1900.
The first enrolment of 69 students were attracted to a notice in the ‘West Australian’ newspaper advertising classes in Chemistry, Assaying, Metallurgy, Minerology, Geology, Woodwork, Metalwork and Carving. Art and Design classes for mechanical drawing were also offered, all at a ‘moderate fee’.
Central TAFE employs more than 2,500 staff and has more than 25,000 students enrolled across seven campuses. At Central TAFE it is focused on a team environment and employees are selected based on a combination of ability, work experience and team ethics.
The Governing Council governs the operations and affairs of Central TAFE. The Council convenes quarterly to review and discuss business compliance, performance and related issues.
The Council comprises a chairperson and up to 11 members, appointed by the Minister for Education and Training, in addition to the Managing Director of Central TAFE.
